Hello everybody:)

i had the chance to listen to the Alevi radio here in the forum, but it is off most of the time. Can you tell me some other sites where i can listen to alevi music? and one more question - it seems to me that alevi music as rhythm is different from turkish folk music. Is this correct?

Regards,

actually, alevi music is turkish folk music..The traditional music of Turkisch folk music is composed of a stringed instrument(saz)..
Turkish folk music has a long history(but , ıt is obvious that ,alevi music is turkish folk music)

Google the words "Halk Muzigi", you'll get plenty of web sites for online listening.

Halk muzigi stands for "Folk music" in Turkish.

then, if alevi music is turkish folk music, why alevism is not the religion of turkey, why islam is the most common religion?

Before the 15th century Alevism used to be the belief of the majority in Anatolia and Alevi people didn't need to conceal their identities. There was religious tolerance and freedom for the believers.
By the second half of the 15th century, Ottoman dynasty felt that the Alevi faith was beginning to pose a threat to their personal rule over the country. That was why they chose Sunni-Islam to be the religion of their subjects and suppressed and oppressed the Alevi faith. Adherents of Alevi faith were prosecuted, murdered at the expense of Sunni-Islamisation of the country. Centuries over centuries things went in that way, believers of Alevi faith had to flee to remote villages of the country to preserve their identities.
Subsequently, the country ended up having an Alevi minority versus an overwhelming Sunni majority and hegemony.

what is the difference between ottomans and turks?

Ottomans were the ruling strata of the Ottoman Empire. They were multi-ethnic. However, the Sultan and the dynasty were ethnic Turks.
Of course, not all Turks were of Alevi faith, many of the Turks were Sunni Muslims. But at that time, a slim majority was Alevi.

Sunni-Islamisation of the country was a political choice. I told the story of this choice and the outcome of it.

hello my dear friend...

you said, why, if alevi music is the most common folksmusic in turkey, then why isn't it the most common religion, i.e. ISLAM! do you mean, alevism is not Islam? this is wrong. it is part of it. but the sunni islam dominates over alevism all over the world and the sad thing is that many sunni muslims don't accept alevis as part of the islam, they think alevism is a sect, but not a religion, let alone that it has something to do with the islam or being a muslim. but this is completely rubbish :)

anyway, enjoy "our" music.

try this one, too:

I totally agree with what you have said. it is about time Alevi's are accepted as part of the Islamic religion..
we live in a very unfair world, this is a fact.. i wish there was 'freedom of speech' in Turkey. Even though i dont live there, the thought of my community not being able to speak their words in freedom really hurts me.
